Around Kalkan

Kalkan by day is sleepy and relaxed but comes to life in the evening when you are treated to a seemingly endless array of tempting restaurants.  Kalkan has a pretty pebble beach with sunbedsto hire, or you can go to one of the many beach clubs, the nearest to your villa is just 200 metres downhill. The beautiful and exclusive Villa Mahal Beach club is a five minute walk from Villa Amare. Here you can enjoy a meal or snack in the charming restaurant.

A cruise from the harbour in a Turkish gullet  is an absolute must.  For a modest price you and friends can have a wonderful day cruising around the islands in a charming gullet,  swimming. sunbathing and snorkelling, with a home cooked lunch and afternoon tea included. We have done many of these and highly recommend the experience.

Patara National Park, archeological site and Beach - Patara boasts an amazing 15 km sandy beach, voted one of the top beaches in the world by Times on-line. The beautiful and ancient ruins of the city of Patara, once a major trading port in ancient Lycia, are on the same site. It is also the  home of the endangered loggerhead turtles.

Other ancient archaeological sites include Xanthos - a UNESCO world heritage site, Letoon and Pinara, an ancient city with a unique atmosphere and many cut rock tombs.

If you like walking or hiking do try at least some of the famous Lycian Way, a 509 km marked path which cuts through Lycia. The scenery is beautiful.

Lovely waterfalls and gorge at Saklikent, and you can enjoy a fresh trout lunch there for a very modest price. Tlos, a beautifully preserved ancient city with an oval amphitheatre, is worth a stop on the way.

Horse riding is available at Berzigan, a pretty village in a valley.

The General Markets are on a Thursday in Kalkan and Friday in Kas. Kas is also a very pretty place to visit from where you can catch a ferry to the old Greek island of Meis. You will need your passport.

Diving is availale from a professional school in Kalkan.

There is a small shop just a short walk up the hill from your villa. Kisla has five restaurants / cafes within walking distance of your villa.  The beautiful Hotel Fidanka restaurant is just metres away: http://www.fidanka.com There are also many villa delivery takeaways which are excellent - try http://www.villaeats.com

Taxis are plentiful. You can get a boat taxi ride to Kalkan from the beach club just down the hill, a lovely cool way to travel.  Look out for turtles on the way.

Enquire about staying at Villa Amare

"Beautiful villa in Kalkan with stunning views over the bay. The villa comfortably slept 10 people, was well equipped, clean and well maintained. Customer service with the owners was excellent. Our children loved the pool, although there is no shallow end, however it did mean that the youngest child learned how to swim and by the end of the holiday had no fear of the water and was swimming like a fish! We all enjoyed the beach club at the bottom of the hill and had a lovely day at sea on the Neptune arranged down on the harbour in Kalkan. Most of the restaurants in Kalkan are good, and reasonably priced for families. Overall would definately recommend the villa to a friend and we would definately go back to Kalkan."
